Over the course of the last 12 months, Cam Systems has invested heavily in the re-development of its Cameo software in a 32 Bit architecture which is set to to deliver substantial benefits to customers, both in terms of improved software product and improved service levels. Some of the main reasons behind our decision to move into 32 Bit were: Version and Release Control - Cam Systems new Version & Release Control policy will, for the first time, allow all Cam users to benefit from the latest and most efficient version of the Cameo program. The first 32 Bit program - Version 20 - is the launch release for this new improved software delivery policy. Improved Support Services - With comprehensive documentation, training and testing our Customer Service Centre will be better prepared in advance of each new version release. Cameo 2 - Cam Systems is developing its new .NET based replacement for the Cameo system. The latest 32 Bit platform provides the basis for a gradual and carefully planned move of Cam customers along the technology curve into 32 Bit and eventually 64 Bit architecture and beyond. Microsoft 16 Bit application support - perhaps most pressingly, Microsoft continues to diminish its support for 16 Bit applications - which is the basis for Cameo in its current form. In fact, last year, Microsoft confirmed a decision to move out of 16 Bit and 32 Bit architecture in favour of standardisation exclusively on 64 Bit architecture for its Windows server operating systems.
Cam recognises its responsibility to provide Cameo software on commercially supported platforms, keeping in step with technological advance. Consistent with this approach is the decision to cease future Cameo development in 16 Bit and concentrate all new development in 32 Bit. Immediate day-to-day benefits that all Cam customers will gain from the upgrade to 32 Bit include: Technical Increased processing power by accessing more server machine memory - as Cameo will operate natively on Windows server platforms Interoperability - Windows 32/64 bit based systems support greater levels of data exchange between different applications such as MS Office New support for Windows Terminal Server deployment - to improve network performance over multiple depot implementations More options/flexibility in e-Commerce initiatives such as linking web based facilities more intrinsically into Cameo Greater diagnostic and recovery facilities with extensive audit trail offerings. Improved screen display units are now supported, therefore enabling better use of wide screen terminal displays
Functional Back Order enhancement - provides customers with the facility to pre-book purchased and undelivered stock. Inward stock is thereafter released to customer accounts upon the completion of a Goods Inward process. Manual Bulk Updates - configurable options to allow customers to manipulate stock files Exchange Rate Fixing/Editing - the ability to optionally "lock" the exchange rate to the document at POS Service Transfers - provides treatment and visibility on nominal profits on transfers between depots Service Invoice Enhancement - allowing greater definition of advice note and picking note formatting when used in conjunction with Cam's Document Director. Support for 64 Bit New Ledgers - the first released module in the Cameo 2 development
